Happy International Women’s Day 2021 #IWD2021.

A day to celebrate women and all they do and are.

It’s also a day to reflect on the continuing injustices, misogyny and violence meted out to women and girls on a global basis. It’s a day to reflect on the #MeToo movement, it’s a day to reflect on men shouting at women and girls from cars and vans as they run and exercise outside, it’s a day to reflect on the absence of women at the topic table of companies* (around a third of board members are women and far fewer than this are on leadership teams in FTSE 100 companies).

It’s a time to reflect on these injustices and take action to make things different.

Discuss it with your friends and colleagues – how can we increase female representation?

Discuss it with your children – look at the #NCW2021 Virtual Careers Fair at www.ncw2021.co.uk and see all the roles and opportunities for women and girls.

Discuss it with your teacher colleagues – how can we make sure opportunity is equally made visible? (See the chapter in my book #TheLadder on equality of opportunity and the other on underrepresentation in STEM careers and subjects https://innovative enterprise.co.uk/author

Discuss equality of opportunity with your friends, colleagues, relatives and neighbours who are women and ask them what they would like you to do – and then take some action.

Get involved and make a change the future world will thank you for.

Bernie.
